Research Announces Filing of Patent Application for Light
Accelerated Orthodontics.
VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA - Jun. 15, 2009 - Biolux
Research Ltd. is pleased to announce today the filing
of a patent application for a method and apparatus for
accelerating orthodontics with light treatment technology.
Orthodontics is the dentistry specialty of moving teeth
within the jaw to provide better alignment and other benefits,
and is a very common dental procedure. There are approximately
10,000 orthodontists in the US and Canada, with approximately
2 million patients undergoing orthodontic treatment in
an average year. Orthodontic treatment is traditionally
achieved with appliances (braces) that provide physical
force to the teeth and move the roots through the bone.
Typical orthodontic treatments range from 12 to 36 months,
due to the natural limitations of bone resorption and
regeneration processes, and consist of frequent visits
to the orthodontist for adjustments and tightening. Reducing
overall treatment time can provide a much better experience
for the patient, including less social stigma, discomfort,
and change of diet, while accelerating the process presents
new opportunities to the orthodontist to provide different
and better care. |
